The Job

Two Very Different Kinds of Yukon Homes, One Job Either Way

Yukon is a town of real contrasts when it comes to housing stock, and that shapes how aquarium removal plays out here. On one side, there's the historic core near the old Route 66 strip and downtown, with smaller older homes that sometimes have narrower doorways and tighter room layouts than anything built in the last twenty years. On the other, there are Yukon's newer subdivisions pushing out toward Mustang Road and Czech Hall Road, where open floor plans and three-car garages are the norm.

In the older homes, we often find tanks that have been part of the household for a decade or more, sometimes inherited along with the house itself from a previous owner. Moving a large tank through a 1960s-era doorway takes a bit more care and sometimes a bit of temporary hardware removal — taking a door off its hinges, for instance — that's rarely needed in a newer build with standard modern door widths.

In the newer subdivisions, we're more likely to see large, well-maintained reef or freshwater display setups in open living areas, sometimes with built-in shelving or an adjacent sump cabinet. Either way, the work is the same at its core: drain it, disassemble what needs disassembling, and get it out cleanly.

Weight, Access, and the Realities of Older Doorways

The physics of a drained aquarium don't change from one house to the next — glass is heavy, stands can be heavier, and canopies with lighting add bulk on top of that. What changes in Yukon is the path we have to take to get the tank out. Older homes near the historic district sometimes have doorways that were standard for their era but are noticeably narrower than what gets built today, and a 48-inch-wide tank simply won't clear some of those openings without the door itself coming off its hinges first.

We've learned to ask about home age and approximate doorway widths during the initial call specifically because of how often this comes up in Yukon's older neighborhoods. It's a five-minute question that saves real time on the day of the job, since we'd rather bring the right tools from the start than discover a tight squeeze with a loaded tank already in hand.

Saltwater setups in either type of home bring their own weight considerations from live rock and sand, and we always confirm livestock has been rehomed before scheduling. Contact us for a free quote. Call or text 405-566-9730.

How It Works

Our Simple Process

01

Call With Your Tank Details and Home Type

Call or text 405-566-9730 and mention your tank size along with whether you're in one of Yukon's older homes near downtown or a newer subdivision. Older homes sometimes need extra doorway planning, which we're happy to account for ahead of time.

02

On-Site Draining

We siphon the water out before moving anything, regardless of the home's age or layout. This keeps the tank light enough and the glass stable enough to carry safely through whatever doorway or hallway stands between it and our truck.

03

Careful Transport Through the Home

In older Yukon homes we sometimes remove a door from its hinges temporarily to widen a passage; in newer homes this is rarely necessary. Either way, we move the drained tank and stand together as a team rather than rushing a solo carry.

04

Full Hardware and Decor Cleared

Filters, heaters, lighting, substrate, and decorations all come out with the tank and stand, leaving the room or garage completely clear of aquarium equipment.

Why Anthony's

Why OKC Chooses Us

We Plan Around Older Home Layouts

Yukon's historic district homes sometimes have narrower doorways than modern builds, and we ask the right questions ahead of time so we're not caught off guard trying to maneuver a tank through a passage that's too tight.

We Treat Newer and Older Homes With the Same Care

Whether it's a wide-open subdivision living room or a cozy older house near downtown, we bring the same careful lifting technique and attention to the home's finishes throughout the job.

We Leave Nothing Behind

Stands, canopies, filters, heaters, substrate, and decorations all leave with the tank, so you're not stuck dealing with scattered aquarium equipment after the main piece is gone.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It's worth mentioning your home's approximate age and doorway width when you call, since some of Yukon's older homes do have narrower passages than modern construction. In many cases we can get a tank through by angling it carefully, and if needed we can temporarily take a door off its hinges to create a bit more clearance. We'd rather know about a tight doorway ahead of time than discover it mid-move.

Generally yes, newer open floor plans in Yukon's subdivisions tend to give us more room to maneuver a drained tank and stand without navigating narrow hallways or tight door frames. That said, larger tanks in these homes are sometimes bigger overall — 100 gallons or more isn't unusual — so the size of the tank can offset some of the access advantage.

It depends on the tank size and how we're draining it, but a larger tank, say 75 gallons or more, can take a meaningful chunk of the visit just to siphon down to an empty, liftable weight. We plan for this as part of the appointment rather than treating it as a quick afterthought, so there's no rush that risks a crack or spill partway through.

We take the rock and sand too if you want it gone, bagging it up separately from the tank itself since it tends to be heavier and messier than people expect once it's been sitting wet for years. If you'd like to keep some rock for a future setup, just let us know and we'll leave what you want to hold onto.

We'd recommend rehoming fish and any coral before scheduling your removal appointment, whether through a local fish store, a hobbyist trade group, or an online marketplace — the OKC metro has an active aquarium community that Yukon residents often use. We don't handle livestock ourselves, but we're happy to schedule your removal for as soon as the tank is cleared out.
